July 4th in our country is a significant day. It is the day our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence. Which declared us an independent Nation no longer under the rule of England's King George III. History tells us that Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas in 1492 and believing that he was in India called the natives he encountered Indians. Ironic...How does one "DISCOVER" a place that has natives? Which brings up the question of what this day, July 4th , means for the descendants of those natives who not only welcomed the pilgrims but fed them and taught them to live off the land and then forced on to reservations? More Irony...Firework stands, the ones with the good fireworks, in most areas of this country are sold by Native Americans.
On this Independence Day we as a nation gather to celebrate the freedoms that we enjoy freedoms that we have not allowed some other cultures in our history, Blacks, Indians, Asians, to name a few. Freedoms that we use as excuses to conquer other nations in the name of HUMAN RIGHTS. Freedoms that, if we are honest with our selves are in jeopardy here in the great ol' USA. Hey don't get me wrong I am proud to be an American and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world...As an American I have a right to question our governments methods, whether it be things they did last week or 200 years ago. You can call me unpatriotic, or even a liberal nut if you choose, but I know that the forefathers of this great nation fought and died to give me such freedoms as freedom of speech, freedom of choice, and the right to question our government. They also gave you the right to disagree with me and call me names because you disagree with me!!!
Happy 4th of July Everyone!!!
