What does this day we call Thanksgiving really mean to Americans?
We eat Turkey, gather with friends and family, watch parades and football, and begin preparing for Christmas.
We talk about things that we as individuals and as a nation are or should be thankful for.
But what does Thanksgiving mean?
It began with the "discovery" (more like invasion) of this great country.
As the White man disembarked from the ships, bringing with them very few provisions for their stay, they encountered the "Indians"/"Native Americans" who in kind helped them survive. The meal they shared with the white man would for ever more be known as Thanksgiving, because they were thankful for the help the natives provided them with through that and the next few winters. The Natives showed these new comers how to survive off the land, how to farm and hunt, and for this they were thanked...Now what came later is not to be thought about on this day...We don't actually like to talk about it and so the story of the first Thanksgiving is often omitted these days.
None the less this is the day that we as a nation come together to say thank you for something, to someone, and try to show an appreciation that we should show all year long!!! I challenge all who read this to make the next 365 days Thanksgiving...Say thank you to someone everyday for something!!!
I'll start~Thank You to all who have taken the time to read my ramblings!!! Thank You to all my friends and family for supporting me through this incredibly rough year!!!
But MOST IMPORTANT THANK YOU GOD for EVERYTHING!!!
